Desert and friends

Desert and friends

My first two years with babblers were characterized by two things – a lot of time in the field, and poor photo gear.

The gear was a relatively small bridge camera or, rarely, a DSLR borrowed from friends. While the bridge camera lacked many features, the portability was amazing. I couldn't imagine leaving the house without it, and, given the amount of time I spent with babblers, I witnessed amazing moments with them. Most of them, of course, I couldn't record – they were simply too fast. Chases of butterflies, babblers' morning dances, fledglings playing, lizard hunting, fights between groups, babblers mobbing anything that came into their territory, but I tried, a lot, hundreds of photos every day, and sometimes I would get lucky and they would show off their success or not get completely out of focus.

Not all the photos in this collection are of great sharpness or color depth, but they are from the time I was growing the most and include some amazing moments, and portraits of some of my dearest babblers.
